Together with your order for Plants we will also send you a Trunk Protector. Install it so that it is about 30 cm. high.

 Advantages of the Protector

They prevent damage from rodents, rabbits, hares etc. When using herbicides, they avoid burn damage. They stop rootstocks from budding, as no light gets through. If planting during the months of May, June and July, they help to avoid dehydration, as they reflect the sun’s rays, given that the protector is an opaque white colour.

  Drawbacks
Slugs and snails can make their home in them which means we have to keep an eye on them and apply Metaldehyde or Methiocarb as a pelletised bait.

NB: Once the saplings have been planted and cut, it’s best to coat the cut with a healing agent, one with an asphalt bitumen base, together with coal tar.
10-15 days after planting, we recommend you remove the leaves by cutting them at the petiole. That way we will have a more uniform growth throughout the plantation, since by removing the leaves we avoid dehydration and the loss of the plant’s reserves.

If you have planted the trees in May, June or later, remove the leaves as and when you plant them (but only in the case of saplings that have been growing in soil, never cut off the leaves of plants that have been in a hydroponic growth system.
